An interlaced GIF is a variation of the popular gif graphics format which is so popular on the WWW. The interlaced image initially appears in poor resolution and then improves in resolution until the complete image is downloaded. This makes it possible to get an idea of what the entire image will look like while waiting for the rest. Interlaced gifs are more interesting to watch as they download, and they also provide a higher resolution image upon completion Not all web browsers support progressive-display as the image is downloaded, but non-progressive-display web browsers will still display interlaced GIFs once the entire image has arrived.
